Le Wrap-Up

Let’s recap:

So I couldnt really sleep. I had only actually written a “script” for my lesson plan around 11:00pm and had basically memorized in 30 minutes. For the most part, I was ready. Someone let me know what I should expect and I got my mind right about it. But i still couldnt sleep. I finally just woke up at 6 and was out of the apartment around 7. I got to the career center around 7:15. but of course they dont really open till 9ish. So I walked around in my grey-pinstripe jumpoff and copped some coffee. Im not sure why, but seriously, in my world, Teach for America = Coffee. I chilled out front and some dude let me into the center. I just maxed out in the waiting room upstairs preparing for the shit to hit the fan. There were other folks up in there. Mostly dorks waiting for interviews with engineering firms and the like. Can I give a shout out to the receptionist there? Shes perfect for the spot, makes everyone feel real comfortable. (Or was it just me since old japanese ladies rank mega-high on the damn-she’s-exactly-like-my-aunty-and-therefore-makes-me-calm vibe?)
8:30, boom, I’ll check it out. Naw, can’t go in the room yet. All good, so I chill outside. Slowly, more interviewees roll up. Thankfully, none of them are wack. (I was worried that there would be some annoying clown that got my mood all illy) No competitive vibes and we get down to business. Sample lessons go relatively well, no one has similar lessons and we get to play with litmus paper, learn CPR for unconscious choking, find the mean, use adjectives of degree, learn some Spanish possessives and talk about the 15th amendment (mine) all in 5 minute slots. Most people finish just in time except for one person, but its no big thing.

Our group activity was chill too, everyone had good stuff to say and no one dominated the conversation.

noon-ish: Going well, all we had left was a little solo problem solving thing and the 45 minute solo interview.

That ish wasnt bad at all either. My interviewer was real cool and her personal experiences as a teacher that she shared made it all a lot more chill and made me less cynical. (I still have no delusions about how hard this would be if i got it though.) Hardest part of the interview was a role playing thing. I was kinda sketched on that, but I used the concepts they like, so hopefully I’m good.

Im still pretty positive that I wont actually get accepted, but ’sall good. The interview is over, spring break starts thursday, and im goin to disneyland.

holla.
