From a “style” section:
As a fashion-loving woman living on Oahu, I have noticed a major void in glamour on the island. While I understand that this is Hawaii, the land of laid-back, casual attire; I cannot be satisfied with slippers, shorts and aloha prints. For those who lust for a wardrobe full of glamour and class, as I do, here are some suggestions.
Look to the queens of Hollywood glamour for inspiration.
First is the epitome of classic glamour: Audrey Hepburn. Her playful charm is shown in her whimsical clothing, sleek hairstyle and simple but striking make-up.
Next, the queen of sexy glamour: Marilyn Monroe. A flirty A-line dress, soft curls and a pouty red lip are all you need to emulate this Hollywood vixen.
Elizabeth Taylor, the embodiment of extravagant glamour, can be the idol for all of you jewelry loving ladies. Pile on the jewels and fabulous gown and you too can channel Elizabeth Taylor
If you covet an air of mystery in your wardrobe, look no further than 1930s screen siren Greta Garbo. Her secretively seductive look can be achieved by smoky eye make-up; tousled hair and a stylish 1930s inspired ensemble (think a bias cut gown or a sophisticated skirt suit).
Uncomfortable with “all out” glamour? Mirror one of my favorite 1960’s TV stars, Mary Tyler Moore as Laura Petrie on the Dick Van Dyke show. Classic black Capri pants paired with a smart sweater and stylish flats complete this look. Simple, elegant and adorable.
Why not bring a little glamour into your everyday wardrobe? You just need a few hints of elegance.
One of my favorites is classic red lipstick. Don’t run away just yet! Have you tried it? There are countless shades of red to suit every skin tone and personality.Next is high heels. Spice up your jeans and blouse with a sexy pair.
Another easy way to add glamour is jewelry. Real diamonds are not necessary. In fact, costume jewelry is my favorite, especially when it’s vintage. It’s unique, fun and inexpensive. Add a funky brooch or chunky ring to a simple outfit and you have instant glamour!
The most common response I get when crusading for a more glamorous world is: “I have nowhere to wear this!” My answer is to create your own occasion: Plan a ladies’ night where you and your girlfriends dress in your most glamorous ensembles, sip martinis and dance the night away. Have a cocktail party at your home and require formal attire.
Now it’s time to take what you’ve learned and release your inner glamour girl. Put on your red lipstick, costume jewelry, sleek pencil skirt or flirty dress and join the crusade for a more stylish Hawaii!
Wow! Release your inner glamour girl, y’all! What a crusade it is. Seriously? Have a cocktail party and require formal attire? GTFOHWTB x 10.
Of course the most depressing and hilarious part of Hawai’i is its yearning. Most folks here know that they are behind the continent by a good amount of time…and many accept that. The comedy ensues when the fervor at which folks here try and be others. Sweartogod. Going to some parties here is like bizarro cinespace (which is bizarre enough).
