I had a really dope AP lit teacher my senior year of high school. I don’t really know her story, but she fit the archetype of the notfittinginthemoldoftherestoftheboringschoolWOWshe’snutty Teacher. As a kind of graduation gift, she gave me a grip of random NY proto-punk and art rock 45’s (plus Eddie Murphy’s “party all the time” and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’s “Fire”). I’ll forever appreciate her, however, as the one adult that would talk to me about David Axelrod (and the only person I knew at the time who had the LP’s…so of course i had to respect).

I hate manufactured nostalgia as much as the next person, so I had to step back for a sec and analyze why I, a young person, should disagree with my fellow young person on why an overly nostalgified decade should be given a second chance, particularly one as cornily co-opted as the 80s. I mean, it’s really easy to take the road to be like “yo its so lame that everyone loves the 80s, I aint fallin for that.”

Whatever, the discussion is useless cause every decade has its bangers. It’s just how it’s marketed in the afterlife, right?
